During the first week of exploring the new Unit, we have been observing the changes happening outside but also how the weather and temperature is changing as well. We introduced the " Weather Watch" symbol where the children stand to look out the window and tell the class what the weather is like that day. The children then draw what they see on a weekly ongoing weather chart, giving us the opportunity to observe how the weather is changing.

Language Arts

Ms Kathryn Ramsay came in to sing some songs with Nursery before Nap time, bringing with her, her ' Song Bag'. After seeing the children's excitement and fun, we decided to make our own ' Song Bag' to use daily! Thank you Ms Kathryn

Maths/ Science

Using different materials that have been brought into school, the children are able to sort, count and make patterns! The nursery children have become quite the scientists! Using magnifying glasses they are exploring the many different things Autumn brings!

Special Projects:

To start our new Unit off with something fun, we made a nice, warm Vegetable Soup. Thank you to everyone who contributed. It was wonderful to see the children chopping, smelling and even tasting as we prepared the veggies. Next time you come to school, take a peek at our photo board in the reading corner to see all the pictures from this enriching experience!

We worked together and created a big tree for our new role play area! We looked at books to give us ideas what happens to trees and leaves in the Autumn months. We noticed that the leaves are no longer GREEN, but are turning different colors; RED, YELLOW, BROWN and ORANGE!

Ways To support your child's learning outside of the classroom: Ask your child to do the movements along with reciting the fingerplays

Finger plays recently learned in class: Recite along with your child.

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick, sick, sick

And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat.

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head,

He wrote on the paper for a pill, pill, pill

"I'll be back in the morning with the bill, bill, bill.

The beehive: First use one closed fist and then in the second verse, for double numbers, two closed fists.

Here is the beehive. Where are the bees?

1: While out in the country or the park talk with your child about the changes that are happening to the trees, leaves, plants, etc.. LOOK FOR SIGNS OF SPRING, small green shoots, blossoms, use your eyes and nose to explore.

2: Read to your child in your mother tongue. Find a quiet moment, maybe before bed to read a story together. Although your child may not be able to read the words, they surely can

' read' the pictures to you!

3: On your way to school count the cars you pass, or the stairs you need to use. These natural and simple ways of enriching numbers and counting, will make learning fun!

Please include photos and any decorations that you would like. These books will be shared with the other children but will also be going home, to learn about the difference and similar celebrations we all celebrate!

Fun things to do at home!

The children love to play with playdough here at school. Aside from being FUN to play with, playdough helps develop many different skills such as: fine motor development and creativity. Having a wide range materials to add to playdough leads to a wonderful open-ended play time together! You could have leaves, straws, animals, buttons, googly eyes, fabric or pasta shells on the table in individual containers, ready for those little hands to get busy.

Here is our favorite playdough recipe:

1/2 cup of salt

1 cup of flour

2 tbs cream of tartar

1 cup of water

1 tbs of oil

3-4 drops of food colouring of your choice

STEP 1: Mix all ingredients together in a medium saucepan

STEP 2: Stir over hear until dough forms a big ball

STEP 3: allow to cool

STEP 4: HAVE FUN!

STEP 5: Store in a sealed container or plastic bag
