Part 2: Nursery settles at school!

                              Nursery's First Month at School

The Nursery children (and teachers!) are now into the  school routine.  Circle times are important and having two smaller circles helps each child be more attentive and have their say in conversations. We asked in circle ‘Why do we come to school?’   The replies are posted in the corridor by Nursery.  See HOME CONNECTIONS for a song we sing each day to start out the circles.  Children are helping each other in little, important ways – moving over to make room on the carpet, putting away toys together.  Nursery is on their way to being a caring community.

                                              Language  Arts

The children ask questions and teachers ask questions.   Some of the questions asked by children are:’ Where is Ms. Luana?’  ‘Where are you going?‘  and ‘Voglio capire se quella macchina ti porta a scuola o ti porta a casa?’  We teachers are asking the children what they like about school or if there is anything that they don’t like.  A popular book this week in Nursery is  ‘There’s a dragon at my School” .

AND there is now another a NEW book  published by the Nursery class:
“My Nursery Friends” which is being sent home with a different child each day.
Besides drawing the children are VERY concentrated on  cutting skills.

                                                 Maths

As the children stick buttons on the outline of a number symbol (see photograph), they begin to count and share their number knowledge 'one, two, three, four’
'number 2'   'questo e’ one, questo e’ two, three, four’.
And the numbers get BIGGER and BIGGER as the children are measured on a height chart. The children have been measured now, and then again we will see how much they have grown at the end of the school year.
