Merry Christmas From Us to You!!

  As  Autumn turns to Winter….

There’s a chill in the air.  The children are describing the weather now as ‘cloudy’ grigio, grey and cold, BRRRR.  We may have to wear mittens or gloves, a hat, boots, jacket or coat to go play outside in the garden. .....

.....  So, as well as learning all the names of winter clothing, with a song ‘Its, cold outside, it’s cold outside, it’s time to put on my…boots,   It’s cold outside…It’s time to put on my…scarf..

We are learning to take care of all these belongings  AND how to  put clothing on before we go to play in the garden.

      LANGUAGE ARTS

We have watched the weather and recorded the daily changes over a period of 5 WEEKS.  Have a look when you bring your child to school.  Everyone participated in recording and marking what sort of weather we had.

Ms. Jen read The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and created a winterland where children could  make their own winter landscape and snowmen.

Some other books we have read at story time are:  Hats and Mittens by Susan Burroughs and Windy Wednesday by Phyllis Root

What has happened to our Autumn tree and cave?? The children entered the classroom and found that the leaves had fallen from the tree and  the  cave was now dark, ‘colder’.  We have made our room even more  Wintry with  blue colours added to the wall and cave

Who wants to come in the winter cave to keep warm?

MATHS:

Matching and sorting mittens.   The children had to sort through a number of hats, scarves and mittens to find what matched up just right.  They were also asked to find their own way of sorting…

The children  are learning to recognize and trace number symbols  (remember  - start at the top..) using magnetic tracing numbers.  Some children, started to put the numbers in order on the table.

 SPECIAL EVENTS:
Nursery has made holiday cards for the 'Giving Back Bazaar'
a BIG school event on Friday, December 4th.

Nursery celebrated Thanksgiving in their classroom with a wonderful dinner.

Autumn is in full swing!

Although the weather tells a different story, in Nursery we are finding all kinds of things that are changing at this time of year! The children are noticing that leaves are changing color from green to yellow, brown and orange and are falling from the trees.

Language Arts

The children in Nursery have become 'Wonderful Weather Observers!' We are learning weather words such as:
sunny, rainy, stormy, windy, cloudy
Also a few children have noticed that its getting cooler outside and that we are now wearing jackets and sweaters to school.
By playing games, we extend our vocabulary and HAVE FUN!

We have been working together creating our deep dark forest painting and making the roots for our big tree!

Math

We have a wonderful collection of autumn materials to look at and sort.
Math can be introduced through guided activities, like working at a table
sorting nuts, acorns, pinecones.  The children find their own way to sort the materials.  It may not be the same way as a classmate is sorting.  They also count how many, and in some cases, count way beyond 10.

Can you build this tower as high as the trees in Villa Pamphili?

 Our trip to Villa Pamphili:

We went on our field trip and had a lovely morning exploring the deep dark forest, playing in the playground and of course eating lunch! The children were able to see how many things are changing at this time of year. We collected different leaves, acorns and pinecones to use back in class.

OFF WE GO!
